Nice day
This was a nice hike.

not so slushy
I had to come back and face Powerline again. This time the trail was much more manageable and it was an easy day.

bring gaiters! I took the standard route up, but went around back to the Powerline trail to get home. This was a big mistake without snowshoes. I was in thigh deep snow most of the way which made this one of the most exhausting hikes of my life. The trail could not be found after a while and I was forced to break trail and bushwhack over the ridge back to the original trail.

Main Trail from Roxborough State Park
Hiked with Ian on a clear, warm day. Great views of Denver, Roxborough State Park, and the unusual red rock formations. Friends live within walking distance, so I plan on doing this one again someday.

Pleasant Stroll
This was a good way to wind down the week. Though snow was deep in places, it was solid enough to go sans snowshoes. Mostly families in the park, so we had the peak trail and peak to ourselves. A calm enough day I heard a mouse scuttling in the leaves under the scrub oak, and was able to locate him. That's a calm day. Falcons, chickadees, and some kind of bird that looked like a blue grackle were also active.

South Rim Trail to Carpenter Peak Trail
2 hours roundtrip. Saw a fox and some mule deer. Good views of South Boulder Peak, Bear Peak, Longs Peak and Denver.

Denver greeted Erin and I with extremely warm temps during our Christmas visit, and Roxborough sounded like a nice place to go to test our legs. I liked seeing all the mule deer along the trail, and the views were excellent from the summit. I wish I had come here sooner!

I hiked Carpenter with the Colorado Mountain Club. We took the Carpenter Peak Trail to the top, then looped back around on a forest service trail and the Elk Valley Trail on the return. There's a lot of snapped branches and downed trees, thanks to last week's snowstorm.

Good workout - short hike - watch for lots of mud in the spring time... Boots recommended during spring for this reason. Watch out for all the people - you may want to go early or later to avoid the crowds.
