Beautiful day in Sangre mountains, finally after recent snowstorm mountains look delightful.
Nice hike, steep slope but very rewarding with amazing views of Crestones.
climbed the northeast ridge w/john after the winds started loading our intended couloir routes in the area. solid slog with tons of postholing, but the views of ALL the surrounding peaks are incredible from marble!

Still lots of snow all the way to treeline. Left my snowshoes in the car thinking it shouldn't be too bad and ended up postholing up to my thighs for half the trip.

Warm temps meant post-holing in snowshoes to my knees on the way down.

Gathering
Great peak for a gathering. Good to see old friends and meet new ones. See you next year!
Nice, easy hike to the top for beautiful views. The forest was littered with gorgeous flowers. Met a group of fantastic folks. Couldn't have picked a better day and a better hike. Thanks Alan and Aaron.

northeast ridge
Climbing Marble Mountain was wonderful. The tundra was grassy and soft, full of wildflowers. Views of the surrounding Sangre de Cristo mountain range were spectacular, and the SP climbing group was terrific.
I enjoyed this peak immensely, and I'm already looking forward to next year's SP gathering.

Really, what can make a peak ascent in beautiful high country more fun than having excellent company? Sitting in the warm sun on the summit snacking and chatting with fellow SPers made for a fantastic morning. (Afterall, the last of our group reached the summit at about 10:30, right?) What a fantastic day! I enjoyed the pizza & bear at Pizza Madness, too!
1st: July 18, 2009 with the SP Summer Gathering climb, hung out on the summit for over 2 hrs, what better place to hold an SP member "summit" than on a summit! Thanks to Aaron for putting this together.
2nd: June 10, 2018 with Rachael. Great views once again, a nice quick climb away from the South Colony crowds!

Rainbow Trail/Marble Mountain Trail
We took the Rainbow Trail to the Marble Mountain Trail which goes up Hudson Creek. The trail peters out at timberline, so you just make your way as best you can to the southeast ridge and then to the summit. Great views of the Crestones.

Luckily there were old tracks through the unconsolidated sugar snow. This is a great, safe winter route.

Whew! Don't take this peak for granted in winter. The fierce winds and cold made this day a challenge, but it was all worth it. The drive up the road (twice) made this trip a true adventure.
