"In my time of dying, want nobody to mourn.
All I want for you to do is take my body home ..."
(Led Zeppelin - 1975)
It's " Dying Time" again for the aspen leaves in Lockett Meadows, Arizona.

Khyber Pass? Isn't that located in western Asia. I always thought you were from Alaska.
Anyway, I'm glad you like my photo of leaves
dying and slowly wasting away. | | Posted Oct 21, 2009 8:03 pm |

Voted 10/10 | not dying, of course! Just preparing for winter. I always felt this was a flawed comparison. | | Posted Oct 22, 2009 11:07 am |

Hasn't voted | Extremely valid point, Ejnar!
As young lads, we always thought winter was a
time of death and darkness.
Isn't it amazing how deciduous trees know
how to prepare themselves for winter, even
though winter hasn't arrived yet ??? | | Posted Oct 22, 2009 11:13 am |

Voted 10/10 | Yes indeed. I must admit that I don't know enough plant physiology to understand how they do it, maybe they form some chemical that makes the leaves wither and fall of when the days grow shorter? Here it is even more strange because we have deciduous oaks and evergreen oaks growing close to another! | | Posted Oct 22, 2009 4:53 pm |
 | | lcarreau | Re: They are... | |
Hasn't voted | I'm not a plant physiologist either, but some
of those trees seem to have a systematic way
of knowing when to shed their leaves or needles or whatever.
I still remember my childhood days, when the
little freckled-face red-haired boy from
the opposite side of town yelled in my ear,
"Look at all them stinking leaves on the ground, they must be DEAD or something !!!"

Voted 10/10 | Great gold. But some mountain ashes would go better with the caption.:) | | Posted Oct 23, 2009 2:38 am |

Hasn't voted | Arizona's San Francisco Volcanic Field supports a wide variety of deciduous and evergreen trees, but no Mountain ash.
This photo came close to becoming Photo-Of-The-Day, but there seems to be a wider cross-section of people voting on snow-covered meadows and snow-capped mountains.
Personally, I HATE snow, but that's why I moved to Arizona !!! : )))

Voted 10/10 | Personally, I don't mind snow as long as it's red-HOT! As to the mountain ashes, I'm afraid I can't help and will never be any more helpful since I'm planning on my ashes being sent to the Carpathians. :D

Hasn't voted | Before being reduced to ashes, you might want
to take on the shape-shifting abilities of
The Raven. | | Posted Oct 23, 2009 6:35 pm |

Voted 10/10 | Do the native specialists offer any online courses in shape-shifting? | | Posted Oct 24, 2009 4:50 pm |
 | | lcarreau | Re: Aspen Match... | |
Hasn't voted | Nope, unfortunately not !
However, in Slavic mythology, werewolves and other "human to animals" shape-shifting activities are actually quite rare.
That's probably why my matriarch ancestors
from the 'old country' spoke very little of their own shape-shifting abilities.
There are a few "self-proclaimed" Wellness
groups who are actively recruiting people
for participation in "Sweat Lodge Meditation."
Personally, I haven't considered "Sweat Lodge Meditation," because I work up enough
sweat on my hikes here in Arizona.
(And ... I'm assuming my 'Karma Rating' to
actually be quite high).
: ))))) | | Posted Oct 24, 2009 6:53 pm |

Voted 10/10 | I guess my karma rating must've been rather low then since I'm not a "werebear" although I've been trying hard to behave like an old bear recently. :-) | | Posted Oct 26, 2009 4:42 am |

"Lightning" would be a bad thing to have
around when taking a picture. : )) | | Posted Nov 2, 2009 9:39 am |
