Voted 10/10 | What's that peak on the horizon?
It looks a lot like Tokewanna. | | Posted Sep 20, 2011 12:12 am |

Hasn't voted | Thanks Larry! Yes, the peak on the horizon, not quite a third of the way over from the right, with a small bright cloud to its right, is Tokewanna. | | Posted Sep 20, 2011 10:22 am |

Voted 10/10 | Actually, the shadow of that cloud is what
makes this picture truly amazing ...
... and most definitely keeps me from going
snow-blind !!!
Seems like "dark glasses" would be a
requirement when exploring the High Uintas
in March ..
(maybe even a pair of exotic goggles and
skinny skis ..) | | Posted Sep 20, 2011 7:54 pm |

Hasn't voted | Zeejay... Great shot! For someone who doesn't care for winter climbing, this looks like a daunting achievement! Congrats! What do you think the temp was on Kings that day? Are the rocky summits to the right-center of pic Red Castle?--particularly Red Castle 12,800+? | | Posted Sep 29, 2011 1:25 pm |

Hasn't voted | Thanks!
On that particular day we were very lucky with the temps. It was 28 degrees F at 5 in the morning at the start as compared to -1 this year. At the summit, around 3ish, it was probably in the 20's, but most of the way above treeline it was miserably windy.
Yes, that is Red Castle. From R to L,
12338 is blocked by Mt Powell and can't be seen
12700, the main Red Castle summit, looks striped
12566, pointier than 12700
the snow covered 12825
the snow covered 12694 | | Posted Sep 29, 2011 5:36 pm |

Voted 10/10 | Just curious ..
What kind of outerwear ???
Seems like you'd need a wind-shell and have
to dress in layers for those extreme temps.
Are you into Gortex, or would you rather buy
clothing second-hand at the garage sale ??? | | Posted Oct 1, 2011 8:04 pm |
 | | ZeeJay | Re: Snowy Paradise | |
Hasn't voted | Gortex. | | Posted Oct 1, 2011 10:40 pm |

Voted 10/10 | Not too many folks in Arizona own Gortex, for
obvious reasons. | | Posted Oct 2, 2011 12:18 am |
