15 July 2005. Looking back on...
15 July 2005. Looking back on the rugged 13300' gendarme that comprises the crux section of the Father Dyer-Mount Helen ridge.

On the south side of the ridge proper most climbing can be kept to class 2+ or 3. Attempts to stay on the ridge crest will result in 5th class in a couple of spots, including a very sharp, distinct, and quite exposed knife-edge.

Rock was of varying quality - I encountered much that jiggled, but little that moved so much I was concerned about it popping out from under me.

13229' Red Mountain in the background.
