550m high south face of Montaz (2754m) dominates above the enormous grassy slopes of Altipiano del Montasio or high plain of Montaz/Montasio. Below the face, on Forca dei Disteis (2201m) pass, approach splits. One path goes left to the summit via Suringar bivouac and Findenegg couloir (passes below and around the tower on the left edge of the face). The other, normal, approach goes right towards Pipan's ladder.
