Why I ever took off my glasses right here. Had I droped them at this point I would have experienced a rather bright and dangerous descent.

Thanks, and I absolutely agree. What primarily made this dangerous was taking out my DSLR and setting it up - took me a few minutes - although there were no other climbers and little icefall at that time. At any rate, I now have a little point in shoot for moments like these and I spend only a few seconds on quick shots in such places.
