My second favorite wildflower...

Nelson this is a nice spread of some beautiful flowers. I have only seen such extensive fields of avy lillies near Snowmass Lake or up the South Willow Creek drainage in the Gores. They deffinately are an early season flower... how late in July did you take this photo?

Re: My second favorite wildflower...

It was the July 4 weekend, so yes, still early. There was a snowbank a few feet away to my right when I took this shot. The only other place I've seen this many av lillies is up at Piney Lake in June of this year when we did Peak C. Is you first favorite the columbine?

Red Columbines. I didn't see many this year... though. I ran accross a fine specimen in the South Willow Creek drainage in the Gore Range on June 5th (I think I posted a photo of this on the Red Peak page). Actualy now that I think about it it seemed kind of a weak year for all columbine varieties.
