Spring, a fortunate encounter.During a stroll along the western foothills, I met a small coluber that had just awakened from winter hibernation. It was kindly lent and without showing discomfort to a photo session. The hardest thing was to take away my dog Leòn.
Leopard Coluber ( Elaphe Situla)The adder leopard is a part of the snake family Colubridae.
Males can be up to about 100 cm, but rarely exceed 80. Females reach greater lengths (up to 120 cm). It is a slender snake body size and design easily confused with other species in Europe.
The head is narrow and sleek, the eye is of medium size, with round pupil and iris orange. The design characteristic of the species consists of a row of brown to red spots bordered with black on the back and one (or, more rarely, two) row of dark spots on the flanks.
It is a nonaggressive species does not bite or rarely ever, his defense is flight, rarely react if cornered. This snake because of its bright colors is confused with the viper.
The adults feed on small field mice or voles rural, more rarely lizards or insects. Younger tend to lean toward the latter.
Mating occurs in May-June, gestation lasts about two months and the birth of children takes place in August-September. It lays 2 to 5 eggs.
It is a protected species under the Bern Convention, and various regional laws of Piedmont.

A curious episode.Milan - He was driving his truck sull'Autosole and, from the windshield, comes out a snake. It happened at dusk between the exits north of Modena, Modena and south in the direction of Bologna. The truck driver blocked her way. And the snake, blackish over a meter long, which probably was installed on the vehicle during a previous stop, slid along the glass front of the astonished gaze of the truck driver, entering the grid of the template engine. While the driver was trying to recover from his surprise, he called the police and the highway workers who, in turn, warned the Centre wildlife Cock Robin. And so begins the hunt for the reptile. Not an easy task. The snake was still recovered byvolunteers Robin . And it was in perfect condition. It was an example of the coluber, quite harmless, which was then released in a green hill of Modena.
