Incredible crater series!!

Bob,

this series of photos you posted on St. Helens is INCREDIBLE!!

The new dome does look like a Whale's back (think that's what i heard the news folks refer to it as). I like this photo in particular - the helicopter brings out the scale of the crater.

Awsome stuff!!

Re: Incredible crater series!!

Thanks Radek - awesome stuff indeed, IMO. I was so taken by those photos that I had to post them. If you'd like to see the full-sized originals, here's the URL: ftp://ftpext.usgs.gov/pub/wr/wa/vancouver/MSH_Images/. They're really incredible at full size if your browser is not set to autosize them to fit the screen, and you're forced to use the scroll bars to view the entire photo. It's great to watch this mountain change right before our eyes! -Bob

I think it's...

only when there's something like a helicopter for scale can the dome's size really be appreciated. From a distance it can appear quite minor but close up you can be amazed by the sheer size and forces working away beneath.

Re: I think it's...

So true. And it's true of all mountain terrain actually. For example, people always look so much smaller on a mountain than we expect.
