Surprisingly not. The steam you see is, for the most part, water vapor. I am not a chemist or a volcanologist, but my understanding of the chemistry here is that when acid and alkaline, with the same atomic weight, react they result in water, H2O. It's like taking one H from the acid and one OH from the alkaline to get water. The muddy deposits are minerals brought up by the hot water and steam.
