The sedimentary rock visible at Cedar Breaks is ancient limestone. The colors visible in the rock come from various amounts of oxidized irons (red and orange hues) and manganese (purple hues).
From various points (above 10,465') along the east rim, one can look down
650' at such eye candy as Chessman Ridge, and you might even glimpse a
balanced rock or Jimmy Page performing it ... ha,ha ..
