Adder - Copperhouse Lane

Adder - Copperhouse Lane

I had this surprise when I got out of my car on Sunday 26th April 2009. I opened the car door when parked up at Copperhouse Lane and there in the middle of the road was an Adder. It is actually a long time since I last saw an adder here in Kent. The last Adder I got a picture of was in Scotland near Moffat August 2008. This Adder really has some red eyes...!

Re: Looks

Should be exactly the same I guess. You commented on the other Adder shot I have on my album.
They are beautiful, for our only native venomous snake.
Cheers for now - David.

Re: Looks

Sorry to have repeated myself, but they are beautiful animals. I have seen them many times in Denmark, but never been bitten. I have never observed them in France, though.

Re: Looks

No need for the apology. I did not mean that in a negative way. This picture was taken from only a few inches away. They will only bite you if they get cornered and feel seriously threatened. They normally bite as a last resort. This is because when they bite they do not produce any more venom in there glands for at least 7-8 hours leaving them highly vulnerable so they rather just hiss in a threatening way then try and get out of the way.
All the best - David.
