Alabama Mountains

Alabama Mountains
Atypical for Alabama, the Appalachian Mountains run through the eastern part of the state, and are seldom visited. For my first time in the Alabama mountains, I was gently surprised by their beauty and their ability to attract such little attention from outdoor enthusiasts. Here is pictured the long ridge of Cheaha Mountain, the highest mountain in the state of Alabama at 2,407 feet. The highest summit is the knob on the left, and the summit tower can be viewed if looked at closely. Also notice the green in the valley and lower slopes of the mountain, as spring draws ever nearer to the tops of these peaks.

I like the color in this photo. I was there on a greyish type day. The area does surprise you for Alabama!

Thanks! And it is very surprising for Alabama. I had always heard that the southern Appalachians extended into Alabama, but never realized it until I saw it myself.
