Mosaics are the very characteristic patterns of arrangement of two or more elements together. They are rather not common but remarkable in mountains.
The special feature of the mountain environment is its changeability. All its elements like mineral composition of rocks, amount of organic soil between stones, level of insolation, access to water, and many others can be distinctly differentiated on a very small surface. However, these various environmental components creates some kind of equilibrium and, finally, a picture composed of two or more kinds of spots intermingly scattered. We can observe mosaics like small jewels, as larger patches on slopes or in form of wide lanscapes with summits, ranges, lakes and clouds. These mosaics resemble walls of Romans' bathrooms or modern paintings. Images
