Lupine

Lupine are flowers that are in the Family Fabaceae (pea family) and the Genus Lupinus. They are usually blue or purple in color (pink and white are also fairly common) and the flowers grow in clusters on tall stalks. Their leaves are easy to recognize as they consist of 5-17 leaflets all originating from a central point. They are one of my favorite flowers as they are often the first to bloom in the springtime where I live in the Southern Sierra Nevada Foothills. Please feel free to attach your own photos of wild lupine flowers here!

"I am in love with this world. I have nestled lovingly in it. I have climbed its mountains, roamed its forests, sailed its waters, crossed its deserts, felt the sting of its frosts, the oppression of its heats, the drench of its rains, the fury of its winds, and always have beauty and joy waited upon my goings and comings."   --John Burroughs
