Tour de Sniktau & Grizzly Peaks

These pictures are from my lone excursion up Sniktau and Grizzly Peaks from Loveland Pass at the 2007 SP Rockies Winter Gathering. I was the only one there!

Loveland Pass opened at ~6:30am after being closed the previous day due to avalanche. The skies were gorgeous but the wind was atrocious! It was somewhat miserable on the way back from Grizzly as the winds picked up tremendously! I was nearly knocked off my feet dozens of times and it was all I could do to place my trekking poles on the ground where I wanted them...the wind played havoc with them even though they are just thin metal!

It was a long day but great to be back in the mountains after a two month hiatus.

I would not have guessed that the road would open at 6:30, after being closed all day Saturday. Congrats for making the trip, which must now qualify as the smallest SP gathering on record!

Yeah I'm guessing it was 6:30am. I got there at 5:00am and it was still closed. Upon heading back after sleeping at a roadside rest, I saw that it was open around that time.

animal! Congrats man on your Reinhold Messner style ascent of Snikatau and Grizzly! Had I been there I would have gladly gone with, but I was busy in the warm Utah weather bouldering at some of the most classic areas in the west. Nice pics and good job man!

Glad you were able to go, I decided not to head up that way when I realized it was time for bed and the pass was still closed. I slept in and went nordic skiing on Vail's golf course instead! Congrats on your trip!
