Introduction

The Women of SummitPost photo album is a celebration of SP's female members. In a sport that is heavily dominated by men it's great to see some women climbers here on SP. This album is a collection of photos of women hiking, climbing and creatively expressing themselves in the great outdoors. You can keep an eye on what they are doing in the climbing world through this album, and through their personal profiles which are linked through some of their photos.

Feel free to add your own photos. The only criteria is that it must be of a female SP member and climbing related (outdoor photos only). If anyone objects to their photo appearing in this album, just let me know and I will remove it immediately.

The signature photo for this album will be updated weekly as a way to spotlight different members.

Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.
-Helen Keller

Thanks Lolli. We need a better photo of you here, perhaps even for the signature photo. When are you going to post one? :-)

I didn't miss sweet Nadios. Her profile pic is in the album somewhere. That's the only photo I saw of her though. The rest of her photos are of Corax I think.

...in sports and society achievements shows that we are still unused to them kicking ass. This is no critism of the album but this is what came to my mind when I saw it.

I never thought of it that way. The album is not intended to suggest that these women deserve some kind of special achievement award just because they like to climb. It is supposed to be fun. Based on the number of votes that women photos get, I'd say that most people (probably men) enjoy looking at them. And since there is a 7-1 ratio of male members to female members on SP, why not have an album to celebrate their presence here, so they can all be viewed in one place!

I think you're right. But, it's also "serious" achievement photos, which makes it fun, and to me (as a female) it also gives the opposite feeling: wow, nice, there's actually that many of us out there!

The first thing that came to my mind when looking at this album is that is looks just an internet dating site. Pics of women in rows of three. Click on the pic to check out the profile. Nice. I'll enjoy this album. :-D Never thought I'd see this on SP.

But if the women want their pics on this album, then why not?

(returning to my cave..)

Thanks for added me to the list although I don’t consider myself a very photogenic person :) You should attach Shirley to the album since she is one of the best climbers on SP.

but you better get prepared for all the bad PMs you're going to get. We had one of these albums a while back and the owner finally grew weary of all the attacks and deleted it. Hope that doesn't happen again.

Thanks for your comments. There are almost 1000 albums on SP now. People group photos in all kinds of ways. Why not have an album dedicated to women climbers? It provides one central place for people to go look and see what women are on this website. Click on a photo and you can look closer at their profile to see what they have climbed recently.

Every single person on SP posted photos of themselves to be shared with other people. The creation of albums is just a way to organize photos so they can be seen more easily. However, I will most definitely remove the photos for anyone who doesn't wish to be included here.

Is this kind of album appropriate on SP, or at least in the serious non-PnP part of SP? As a male I get an uneasy feeling looking at this album (as well as like it of course). It might be politically correct in the US, but SP has members from all over the world and some of us live in a slightly different cultural environment. What kind of impression does it give having an album on SP that appears to be made for men to drool over? Well, that’s my impression as a male and I don’t think I’m more of a caveman than others. But the submitter presumably has other motivations for adding this album than I have for looking at it.

I’m going to vote honestly and be unpopular. A lot of the pics aren’t of good quality. Also a few are only included because the person is a woman, not because it’s from the mountains or in an outdoors setting which SP is supposed to be about. This album belongs alongside the “Couples…” album, so same vote.

There are parallel discussions going on about this album. Let's stick to the message forum, so the comments don't clutter up my profile page. Thanks.
