Yes, it's the Llama Album

This album is for all those people who love llamas. Respectfully and appropriately.

There is also a serious, educational purpose here. See the next section.

The final purpose is to help fill out the SP wildlife albums. As the number of photos has increased, it's become much easier to find what you want by breaking down the wildlife into taxon and region.

Please add pictures freely. I know we're going to have lots of llama shots, so I'm especially interested in vicunas, dromedaries, and other non-llama camelids.

What's a Camelid?

Camelids are native to North America but spread to South America and to Asia a couple of million years ago.

They include vicunas, guanacos, camels and dromedaries, and of course the llovable llamas. They became extinct in North America around the time the first humans arrived, and there may or may not be a connection there. They are now found in northern Africa, central Asia, and higher elevations in South America.

The US Cavalry reintroduced camels into North America, not very successfully. Llamas have become popular pack animals in many areas frequented by SPers in North America and beyond. Apparently, llonely SPers are especially glad to find llamas in their adventures.

Nice page! I am sure it will only be a small amount of time before they ban this page at my work as inappropriate. :-)

Don't let them ban it -- it's educational! They aren't opposed to people learning things, are they?

Flowers, fine wine, soothing music & quality lama feed by candle light THEN and ONLY THEN one might tactfully bring up the "other" kind of fun.

hahahahahahahah :)

I should have included a safety message -- don't use candles in tents, even tents big enough for a llama!
