Greetings from the San Juan Mountains!

SP MEMBERS PAUSE DURING DESCENT FROM GOLDEN HORN
SP Summer Gathering in Colorado's San Juan Mountains

I am very glad to report that the SP Gathering in the mighty San Juan was a huge success! This album was created to illustrate that. Look for links to the mountains we climbed on our respective vacations as well. I think you'll be impressed at the event's success and the stunning beauty and immediacy of Colorado's San Juan mountains.

Comments from the Group about the Gathering

The following are summit logs and other sources here at SP. Hopefully there's more to come!

jeffrawn: I was privileged to join the group of fellow SPers and enjoy the stunning beauty of the San Juans. Great company and great scenery on a great hike made for a great day! What a blessing!

vanny37: Climbed with the great group of folks at the SP gathering. Wonderful area - great peaks, lakes, flowers, etc. Lucked out on the weather too, but had to endure ROMERO'S REVENGE!

kilimanjaro1: A great time climbing with the SP group for the Summer gathering. Flora was just incredible in Ice Lakes Basin-- definitely the best of the best of Colorado. The climb was fun and the summit views were incredible! A great climb.

mtnhiker13: Beautiful hike through Ice Lake basin - the wildflowers were at their finest! The weather managed to hold off and not rain and we had a group of 10 of us from Summit Post who climbed the mountain. What fun!

Aaron Johnson: I am very glad to report that the SP Gathering in the mighty San Juan was a huge success! We had weather concerns, but the day thankfully remained cool and overcast, made for great pictures and no build-up of violent weather. It was a perfect day in the mountains, save for Romero's Revenge. Great mountain, great people, very good times! There's talk of another gathering in the San Juans. Let's do it!

Kane: Kane's in-depth and hilariously accurate comments are on his 2007 "diary page," including some incredible photos from the event. Below is a sample.

DenMtnMan: Magical! I thoroughly enjoyed the hike, the group, and the mountain! To be able to walk into such a beautiful area is truly a gift to cherish.

Barbara (From an email): What an outstanding destination: a trail through shoulder high flowers in lower ice basin, the amazing shapes and hues of the mountains that hug upper ice lake basin, and the unique shade of blue in ice lake itself. All that combined with excellent hiking company made for a memorable weekend. I hope to see everyone again next year at the 2008 gathering!
