Snowdonia in the 19th Century

During the 19th century Snowdonia became a popular tourist attraction for the English gentry while on their grand tour. These engravings were drawn around 1830, just prior to the area becoming popular. During this time the area was also a hub of industry with intensive mining of slate, copper, lead, zinc and gold, which further intesified with the growth and expansion of the industrial revolution. The scars of this period can still be seen on the mountain sides, particularily around the towns of Llanberis, Bethesda and Blaenau Ffestiniog,
