Description


The limestone mountains of Bükk are located in Northeast Hungary. The central part in a high plateu, with several interesting karst formations: caves, cliffs and dolinas. As the whole area is under protection (Bükk National Park), activities like climbing are subject to permission of the NP authorities. In winter there is possibility to do ice-climbing on an artificial ice wall in Hámor.

Highpoints


Although Mátra takes over Bükk concerning the highest point of the country, it is Bükk which has the highest average height within Hungary. Its highest point is Istállós-kő (959 m), followed by further 42 highpoints exceeding 900 m. It is also Bükk that host the largest unfragmented forestland (100 000 ha) in the country.
