Jastrabia veža (sk) - Jastrzębia Turnia (pl) - Karbunkulus-torony (hu) - Karfunkelturm (de) Jastrabia veža (2137 m) is the tower in the south-east crotch of the Kolový štít (2418 m) in the High Tatras range in the Slovak Republic. It has been attractive for climbing both for good rock and very good access from the chalet at the bank of Zelené pleso (Green tarn), lying at foothill of the tower. First known ascent was by M. Sieczka, guide from Zakopane in the early 1880-ies. Etymology of the names First mentioned by J. Buchholtz (1752) by the German name Königsnase (king's nose). In the beginning of the 19th century this name was taken over by the Hungarian Kincskereső (treasure hunter), which was based on a legend that the "inaccessible" peak has a huge gem on its top. Tatra historians suppose this legend is in connection with the treasure hunter A. J. Papirusz who died somewhere near this tower in 1771. The Slovak and Polish names (the latter introduced in 1879 by J. G. Pawlikowski based on the Slovak etimology) mean "goshawk's tower". Accomodation

Chata pri Zelenom plese (“Brincalka”) situated in Bielej Vody Kezmarskej (Kiezmarska) Valley on the eastern bank of the Green Mountain-Lake („Zelene Pleso”). Chalet is opened all the year for hiking, climbing and ski mountaineering. Red Tape

The “High Tatra” is a National park, UN Bioheritage area and a European BioHeritage - if you are not a member of any climbing club you can move only on marked trails. In winter time (from November the 1st – June the 15th) The Tatra Mountains in Slovakian part are closed for normal tourists (not for climbers). In Polish part you can move the whole of year.
