BALTORO GLACIER, KARAKORAM, PAKISTAN

The Baltoro and other glaciers of the Karakoram are the largest and longest in the world outside the polar region. From its spectacular birthplace in Concordia, at the base of K-2 and the gasherbrum range, the Baltoro Glacier flows for more than 59 kilometers, a rippling, pitted, pockmarked river of ice, where great glaciers slide and slither togather before separating to go their diffrent ways. Like a proscenium, Concordia is part of the main stage of natural amphitheatre that has no equal. On every side, within a distance of 24 kilometers, rise up ten of the world's highest peaks.
