The skyline of Monte Rosa south and east flank is one of the most magnificent sculpture made by nature in Europe.
I hope to see some photo of yours here.
Marco.

lcarreauHello Marco:

Voted 10/10

Thanks for your recent votes! I really love this mountain!
When I look at it, I think about your friend Rosa. Was Rosa
named after this mountain, or was the mountain named after her?
It is a very beautiful mountain to look at, yes? Bravo, Marco!!

Heila Larry!
There is something you have to know about the name "Rosa".
Rosa is a common female name in Italy and is also the name of the flower that is called "rose" in english.
Moreover rosa is also the italian for pink!
But for this mountain the story is different, the name is a distortion of the original one that comes from the ancient German word "roise", that means ice.
So Monte Rosa should be translated as "Mountain of ice", but often people think to it as the pink mountain, especially for the color that it assumes in the early morning on the huge SE flank (the one of the skyline), visible from hundreds
kilometers of distance in the wide plane of Lombardy.

Take a look at this shot of Gabriele:
