Add Your Best Bryce Canyon Photos Bryce Canyon, part of the great American West, is a wonderland of red and orange craggy rocks and pinnacles that are slender and tall in design. They are known as hoodoos and formed by a weathering process - starting out as a fin, then eroding into a window and then finally breaking down into a hoodoo. The area is not really a canyon at all, but instead is the top riser of the Grand Staircase and it appears as a huge amphitheatre, but actually, unlike the one at Cedar Breaks, it is several amphitheatres. The Staircase itself is a geological wonder and Bryce is only a small part of it. As you can see in these photographs, it is a magnificent and wildly different type of landscape than most have seen before. Bryce Canyon has several trails and although it's not a hiking mecca like nearby Zion National Park, it does have some fun places to get out and explore.
