Overview

Photos of wildlife, insects, birds, flowers, plants and trees from the Black Mesa region of Oklahoma. Feel free to add your photos to this album.

There are 2 notable recreation areas in the Back Mesa region; Black Mesa State Park, and the Black Mesa Nature Preserve where the state highpoint is located. Most of the photos in this album thus far were taken from the nature preserve.

Black Mesa State Park consists of 549 acres of land that includes a developed campground and a 200 acre lake, Lake Carl Etling.

The Black Mesa Nature Preserve consists of 1600 acres of protected, undeveloped land. This is where the shortgrass prairie meets the Rocky Mountains. As such, there are many species of plants and animals that reach the eastern or westernmost limit of their range here.
