ALTA TAKING ADVANTAGE OF UDOT RESTRUCTURING OF SAFETY PROGRAM
With Snow control a big safety issue in upper Little Cottonwood Canyon, the UDOT is having to reevaluate its safety procedures/facilities, etc.
This following video tells how the UDOT intends to procede.
Alta Ski Area is trying to take advantage of this opportunity to suggest a Lift to access snow cntrol terrain, as opposed to a Howitzer.
We in the Backcountry community love the town of Alta, and the ski area too. However, this album shows some of the Wasatch we will lose to ticket holders and development if the Alta expansion to FLAGSTAFF MOUNTAIN goes through. Areas affected include all of the upper part of Cottonwood Ridge, Days Fork, Silver Fork, Cardiff and Mill D, Mount Superior.
This is not a skier's issue. Hiker will also find that the lift will have a summer access road, and will most likely introduce mountain biking etc., into this area. This is a yearround chairlift. It will be permanent, and most likely (to be cost effective and "modern") will be a quad-chair.
I'll add addresses and and contact info for you to get involved. There will be several events will be scheduled throughout this year to raise awareness of the town, city, and area owners of our concerns and goals, so please stay tuned.
Thanks for your support. Check these shots out, !ADD YOUR OWN! and GET ACTIVE!!
