A Long Overdue Trip

In the past dozen years I have probably made 20 trips to Great Smoky Mountains National Park but I never managed to make it to the Big Creek and Cosby areas. That came to end the first weekend in May (2009) with a two day trip to the area.

On Saturday we hiked to Mt. Sterling via a 17 mile loop route Big Creek/Baxter Creek Loop. Our plan on Sunday was to climb Mt. Cammerer, but with heavy rains and the ridgelines socked in with clouds we settled on a short hike to Hen Wallow Falls from the Cosby area.

We only had a day and a half on a quick weekend trip - so we didn't get to do as much as I would have liked. All the rain didn't help. I'll definitely be back to the area. Plenty to do - and not all that busy for an early May weekend.
