Over Sonora Pass and down the Eastern Sierra to Mono Lake

Matterhorn Peak and Sawtooth Ridge from Bridgeport Valley

Sierra crest, Sonora Pass, east side
Leaving the SF Bay area Thursday morning, June 25, I drove over Sonora Pass around noon and the clouds were building. As the afternoon wore on the sky got heavier and heavier until the high country was covered in dark and flashes of lightning were at play.

Parker Lake and firey sunset

Mono Crater storm cloud sunset panorama

Parker Lake and Mt. Wood
Before sunset I hiked up to Parker Lake (one of the few areas not covered with dark blue) and back in time to catch some dramatic skies over the Mono Craters and sunset over the mountains.
