Ferron Canyon and the Wasatch PlateauFerron Canyon, in the Wasatch Plateau, is the drainage just south of Joes Valley. The majority of its length can only be accessed by crosscountry hiking, and it is one of the most wild and scenic places on the Wasatch Plateau. It rarely sees visitors. To hike its entire length, one would need to shuttle vehicles, bring river shoes, and prepare for at least one long day of hiking if not more.
Hiking is the only way to see this awesome place close-up, but there are several scenic views that can be accessed by rugged vehicles. The headwaters of Ferron Creek are accessible via Ferron Reservior, the Big Bear Creek Trail (which is a small loop on the northern side), and any of the Skyline access roads (requiring a high clearance vehicle). The mouth of the drainage is found directly West of the town of Ferron and the Millsite Reservior. A forest road goes a few miles up in the drainage, then turns south, up the Narrows and onto the Ferron Mountain area. This road also accesses the Black Dragon OHV trail that heads up into Joes Valley.
This album is serving as a sub-album for the Wasatch Plateau album that contains many of its pictures, and will, hopefully, help folks begin to find and understand the Ferron Creek drainage within its Plateau locale. I may expand these albums into Area Pages at some point, and will continue to add information along the way. Meantime, if you have questions about this area, just pm me. Thanks, and have fun looking through the photos and piecing this place together.
