Information

The Hoh Rainforest is a moderate or temperate rainforest, truly a rarity in the world and in the world of rainforests as well. There are actually three of this type though in Olympic National Park along the Quinalt, Queets and Hoh Rivers. Other temperate rainforests are also found in southern Chile, western British Columbia and New Zealand.

In late August of 2009 I walked the short Hall of Mosses Trail (round trip of less than 1.5 miles) with less than 100 feet of elevation gain. It is a wonderful hike of contrasts with mosses, ferns, fungus, tall firs, hemlocks and spruce as well as a truly unique glade of mossy, "dancing" maple trees. There are even a few wooden benches scattered along the paths to stop and rest and admire the beauty of a rainforest experience.

Feel free to add your images if you have walked this beautiful trail.

Great photography of such a magical place. Thank you for putting this together. I really enjoyed it. Since I'm viewing it right before bedtime I hope to dream of dancing maple trees tonight ;) Cheers.

You may all ready be aware of this, but if you're not and you're interested, check out the Hoh River Trust at this link: http://www.hohrivertrust.org/
They're doing a lot the save and protect the river.

I was surprised how many of the largest trees of their species were in the park. Real monsters.

Me too once I started hiking in the rainforest. I expected the mosses but all those tall, huge trees were amazing. Thanks for visiting.
