Blast from the past

In looking at some of the old pics I have, I thought I'd put this together for my family to get a kick out of. There are pics from forty years ago as well as less than ten. The signature picture is one I took on Mt. Rainier back in 1969. Note that we didn't wear helmets in those days. Our ice axes were wooden and our harnesses were self made out of webbing. The ropes were goldline. Yes, the past is good to look back on but today's equipment and gear can't be beat.

More pics to be added later

Blast from Past

Excellent album...kind of stole my idea. I have old climbing and hiking going back the sixties...ugh! I have one of me with a Tapper Nelson back pack! I was about 10. I might put together another album or add to yours? I date back to climbing with the Mountaineers in Seattle climbing with manila ropes!!! Yikes!!!

Re: Blast from Past

Feel free to add pics to the album, especially old gear. I need to get a pic of my MRS orange thunderbird iceaxe but can't find any pics of mine that have it in it. Manilla rope? That was scary stuff. I had one of the first Stephenson tents in the Seattle area. It was before they moved to New England and made their gear in southern California. I kinda miss the roar of a Svea 123.

Groovy album.

I like your descriptions of the equipment and clothing in the photos and pictures of climbing Rainier in 1969. Merry Christmas Dean.

Re: Groovy album.

Love the word "Groovy". It fits the 60's so well. Thanks for your comments and it was fun to meet you and your son at the King's TH that day. Let me also wish you a Merry Christmas and a great upcoming Happy New Year. All the best.
