Here are some photos of a route to Cabezas de Hierro that departs from Cotos and climbs its north face along the left side of a pair of rock buttresses known as Los Pulmones (the lungs, so can suggest their shape over the slope of the mountain).
This was an alone hike I did the 4 o September of 2009. After summiting Cabezas de Hierro I continued to Cerro de Valdemartín, Bola del Mundo, and from here to Cotos along the Loma del Noruego to have a lunch. After that I ascended Peñalara and Claveles, and descended to Cotos again via Laguna de los Pájaros.
It is a hard but interesting route. It reaches six summits, covers a distance of more than twenty kilometers and accumulates a considerable difference of level.
I'll document this combined route apart.
