| Started at 8 AM and finished at 7 PM. Used snowshoes from the point were the Wright Peak spur trail branches off to treeline on Algonquin, and then from the Algonquin-Iroquois col all the way to beyond Avalanche Pass. Used crampons on the above-treeline portion of Algonquin. The portion between Algonquin-Iroquois col to Lake Colden was deep unbroken snow, and this 2-mile or so section alone took over two hours, despite being downhill. It also didn't help that one of my snowshoes broke along the way. We made it with just enough daylight to witness the spectacular beauty of Avalanche Lake, before donning headlamps at Avalanche Pass for the final descent to the Loj. All in all a great hike! |
