Nice weekend hike  Sucess!

Fun hike in the winter. Fairly warm weather and not much snow, but lots of wind and flurry's.

Great Loop  Sucess!

Perfect weather. The trail from Algonquin to Avalanche Lake was pretty icy. Could not have done without microspikes.

Nice Loop  Sucess!

Looped around from the ADK Loj with stops a stop on Wrights Peak. Very Steep descent from Algonquin to Avalanche Lake. Left the loj at 9 AM and returned by 7PM totally exhausted... Awesome views through Avalanche Pass. A mound of earth and tree from a large slide almost all but blocks the pass. great walkways erected on the sides of the cliffs rising straight from the lake. excellent route but you better be in shape to complete... otherwise expect to spend the night.

Algonquin Avalanche Lake Circle  Sucess!

Started at 8 AM and finished at 7 PM. Used snowshoes from the point were the Wright Peak spur trail branches off to treeline on Algonquin, and then from the Algonquin-Iroquois col all the way to beyond Avalanche Pass. Used crampons on the above-treeline portion of Algonquin. The portion between Algonquin-Iroquois col to Lake Colden was deep unbroken snow, and this 2-mile or so section alone took over two hours, despite being downhill. It also didn't help that one of my snowshoes broke along the way. We made it with just enough daylight to witness the spectacular beauty of Avalanche Lake, before donning headlamps at Avalanche Pass for the final descent to the Loj. All in all a great hike!

Ice Climbing  Sucess!

Incredible ice climbing in this area - fat and blue in many places. An NEI6 touched down for the first time in memory. The ice in many areas felt untouched.
