Fun in the winter  Sucess!

Hiked Algonquin Peak 5114' starting at the Adirondack Loj. Took around 10 hours due to steep ice sections towards the summit requiring crampon and some ice axe use. Very cold, around -15 F windchill at the summit with 20+ mph winds. Required snowshoes but was nonetheless an achievable hike on a beautiful day in the dead of winter. Totaled 9.6 miles roundtrip.

Another High Peak  Sucess!

Spectacular views, quite possibly the nicest in the park. Lovely day, up and down (including Wright) in 5.75hrs with a nice break on Algonquin Summit.

Wet, cloudy, and steep  Sucess!

My son (13) and I (49) hiked this from the Adirondack Loj via the Van Hoevenberg Trail. Total time on trail was around 7 hours. There were no views from the top but it was still a very rewarding (but tiring) hike for both of us.

Winter Beauty!  Sucess!

Second time up this mountain, but my first time during winter. Incredibly beautiful snowy landscape. Made our way to the summit without seeing any trail Cairns whatsoever. Unfortunately there was no view, but the clouds cleared as we descended so we caught a nice view of Wright. Warning, people at the Loj will try and force you to rent snowshoes, I found they worked best on the back of my pack and used my crampons the entire hike.

1977!  Sucess!

My third of the 46ers, thanks to a great Scoutmaster who helped me get hooked on outdoor adventures. (Duly reported to "Dear Grace" of the ADK 46ers at the time!)

More snow than expected  Sucess!

Being only the second of the high peaks attempted, needless to say, we weren't fully prepared. The last quarter mile of the trail was an enormous ice sheet that took us by surprise given the warm temperatures at the base. After many 50 foot slides down the mountain, we made it to the summit.

Nice, short hike with a lovely view  Sucess!

Took about three hours to the top. The trail was a bit uneven, but very easy to hike in summer. At the top there is a steeper part with bare rock. The trail is never exposed in any way, and can be hiked by people who don't like heights. The view from the top over the nearby mountains and the lake nested between them is lovely.

Algonquin Peak  Sucess!

Great but tough hike. This mountain packs more punch than any in its height, steep climb with rock scrambling going steady up 2990 feet in less than 3 miles on the Yellow Blaze trail. I climbed out and back through the blue and yellow trails. Weather was great and cooperating and the view from the summit is breathtaking with many lakes and surrounding peaks and a great visibility in a clear sky day like the one I had. Lots of mudd on the way up and many streams, typical in a spring climb, to drink from after using water tablets. Not too many people on the mountain as feared. Started around 10:20 AM and was back in 7 hours. Had a Great time!

Algonquin Peak  Sucess!

Great hike with wonderful views of the surrounding peaks. Take the time to summit Iroquois and Wright while you're up there. There is an ongoing restoration project at the peak which feels a little like a garden in summer!

Stuart Derman  Sucess!

Sick Climb. We got an early start which paid off because a the day went on the wind got stronger. At the summit the wind was between 50mph and 65-70mph gusts. Having crampons was a real plus as the upper half of the trail was coated with thick ice.

Snow flurry

My first peak in late fall. Got to the summit and the wind was howling at 80 km per hour and it was snowwing horizontally. Lost our way back for the first hundred yards before turning back on the right trail.
