Temp. low-50s to start. Trails in fine condition, quite rocky but nothing too arduous. Encountered a moderate number of hikers, still a very comfortable hike. Reached summit in about 4 hours, including Wright peak en route.
Windy and cool at summit, felt like low-40s. Recommend several light layers and something warmer for summit if you plan on resting. Busy at the top, much more so than the hike. Gorgeous views, nice clear day. Return trip much quicker. Overall very enjoyable, well-worth it.

Very easy hike. Nothing to spectacular about it. Nicer in winter because the peak has less visitors. About 3 to 4h round trip from Adirondack Lodge.

My sister Debbie and I climbed Algonquin Peak, 2nd highest in NY State.
The hike was somewhat challenging but the views at the top were worthwhile. We stopped at a delightful waterfall and darnk some pure mountain water (after filtering it of course).
Algonquin has some of the best views for the amount of effort. It may be my favorite peak of all. I have been to its lofty summit three times now. The rock slides of Mt Colden are one of my favorite views ever.
Then you turn the other way on Algonquin and you see Wallface, the tallest cliffs in the Adirondacks.

I really love the summit on this mountain. However, the trip up is quite boring in my opinion. Plus, it takes on way too much traffic...even on a Monday! There were a couple of fun spots, but overall, it's a very rocky and the day I did it, slippery trip. The view from the summit is expansive and spectacular, but to tell you the truth, I enjoyed my trip up little Mount Jo better. Hey, what can I say. I really enjoy my solitude.

A fairly easy hike. Add Wright and Iroquois to make this a 3 peak day. The views from the 3 peaks, however, are quite similar so there really is no need to do the others, unless you're peakbagging.

I found this trip much easier that I expected, The trail is so well maintained and worn compaired to the routes up so many of the other "46er" summits it's much easier than it 5100' height would seem. The view is expansive but we were chased off the summit after about 15 minutes by approching thunderstorms (close).
This and the side trip to Wright Peak took us about 6.5 hrs to complete. Very worthwhile summit. Made this trek with my 11 y/o son & 9 y/o daughter. As long as your in descent shape, it should pose no difficulties.

I found this hike more difficult than Marcy though nursing s second degree sprain of my ankle didn't help. The day was slightly overcast but the views or Marcy and the rest of the Dacks around was excellent... All tolled the hike took about 4 hours and was a serious test at that time for my sea level lungs.

Very wet! After the turn-off to Wright Peak, the trail gets interesting because there is still a lot of deep snow. Poles would probably be helpful. On top the visibility was fantastic but it was bone chilling cold, so we couldn't stay long. We found the descent easier in the snow.... very few rocks to hop.
Not too crowded: we saw only a handful of people, all but one turned back or went up Wright Peak instead... totally alone at the summit, except for a small bird foraging for crumbs.
We did Wright Peak, too (just a couple of small patches of snow there).
One great hike!

i climbed it from the Lodge in August of 95 in the middle of a storm where the temps dipped below 40 degrees near the summit (the temp at the lodge was a nice balmy 70). in 98 i agian climbed it from the lodge, this time in nice, but very windy weather. in 2000 i climbed it in the middle of a gale with 50 mph winds and heavy rain.
Algonquin has great views, but i don't think the weather is ever nice on top.

3.5 Hours to the summit was a good time due to the conditions of the trails. Still very sloppy and some ice in the shady sections. Excellent weather. One of many summits here. This is an excellent conditioning hike and for those of us in Eastern Canada easy to reach in one day.
Climbed in december as well in 2002. Excellent day had trail to ourselves
