Summit was partially clouded in by the time we reached it, it didn't start raining until we began our decent on the other side towards Iroquois Peak.

Beautiful day with no clouds in the sky. Summit was windy on the North side as you approached above treeline, but totally calm on top.

Route Climbed: From Heart Lake Date Climbed: August, 1994  Sucess!

Conditions at the Loj were clear and warm. Above treeline visibility was about 20 feet, the winds were gusting, and it was very cool (probably in the 40s). Summited and then left in a rain storm.

Route Climbed: N side from Adk Loj Date Climbed: Summer of 1991  Sucess!

Climbed this one with an out of shape cigarette smoker who passed out at the top. He was so beat coming down the other side (we were carrying frame packs) that we had to bivvy on the one flat spot in the trail. Otherwise a nice experience.

Route Climbed: Adk. Lodge To Summit Date Climbed: October 2003  Sucess!

Actually, this was to be a trip to Iroquois. At the jct. to Wright, we were forced to don our crampons, as the trail turned to a gigantic ice sheet. The climbing wasn't bad, but the winds at the summit actually blew two of our party off their feet. After a quick conference. we decided to save Iroquois for a less blustery day. We later found out that the winds at the summit that day were in excess of 50 mph. Still a good trip!!!

Route Climbed: from Lake Colden Date Climbed: August 19, 1994  Sucess!

Camped for several days at Lake Colden. We hiked up the pretty rugged trail to the summit of Algonquin, then missed the the use trail leading to Iriqouis on the way back. So we hiked back up a few hundred feet and hit Iroquis too. I grew up in northern New York, and wherever I go, the Adirondacks will always be "home."

Temp. low-50s to start. Trails in fine condition, quite rocky but nothing too arduous. Encountered a moderate number of hikers, still a very comfortable hike. Reached summit in about 4 hours, including Wright peak en route.

Windy and cool at summit, felt like low-40s. Recommend several light layers and something warmer for summit if you plan on resting. Busy at the top, much more so than the hike. Gorgeous views, nice clear day. Return trip much quicker. Overall very enjoyable, well-worth it.

Very easy hike. Nothing to spectacular about it. Nicer in winter because the peak has less visitors. About 3 to 4h round trip from Adirondack Lodge.

My sister Debbie and I climbed Algonquin Peak, 2nd highest in NY State.

The hike was somewhat challenging but the views at the top were worthwhile. We stopped at a delightful waterfall and darnk some pure mountain water (after filtering it of course).

Algonquin has some of the best views for the amount of effort. It may be my favorite peak of all. I have been to its lofty summit three times now. The rock slides of Mt Colden are one of my favorite views ever.

Then you turn the other way on Algonquin and you see Wallface, the tallest cliffs in the Adirondacks.

Route Climbed: Adirondack Loj Date Climbed: Sept 30th, 2002  Sucess!

I really love the summit on this mountain. However, the trip up is quite boring in my opinion. Plus, it takes on way too much traffic...even on a Monday! There were a couple of fun spots, but overall, it's a very rocky and the day I did it, slippery trip. The view from the summit is expansive and spectacular, but to tell you the truth, I enjoyed my trip up little Mount Jo better. Hey, what can I say. I really enjoy my solitude.

A fairly easy hike. Add Wright and Iroquois to make this a 3 peak day. The views from the 3 peaks, however, are quite similar so there really is no need to do the others, unless you're peakbagging.
