Bushwacked and walked roads from the Beaver Creek saddle between Almagre and Rosa. Pretty long and did some decent postholing.

Climbed twice summer 2017
Drove almost to the top the first time and it was a pretty harrowing experience especially when there was another vehicle coming down on the 1 lane road. The second time I parked at an intersection and walked the road up. Much less stressful.

I came up from Deer Park with my friend Melissa L. I remember it being quite a ways up there, but then again it was one of my first ascents. Probably not too tough as mountains go. This mountain along with Pike's Peak later that month are what got me into the joy of climbing. The long distance views of the city and plains beyond were memorable.

From the reservoir...
Kinda weird. You can actually drive to at least the reservoir with a 4x4 with low range. An AWD with decent clearance can get to Deer Park without too much trouble. If the gate is open, you can get all the way to both summits with a low range 4x4. With Mom, Dad, Erin, and Sirius.

Great hike from 379. This time drove up 4X4 road to Mount Rosa trailhead and cut off about 2 miles round trip. Used the saved mileage to explore more of the mtn. Didn't see or hear a single person. Had the whole mountain to myself.

Second Time!
This time I took a trail that was on my GPS from 379, rather than the road itself. Cut off several miles. Sorry to see that Stratton Reservoir had dried up though. Awesome mountain!

Have stared out at this mountain, wanting to summit it for years. This past weekend I finally did it! I took the route from FS 376, but deviated a bit... On the way up, I hiked around the south slope reservoirs, up a gully on the north side to gain the west ridge, then hiked to summit that way. From top I took the standard southwest ridge trail down. Very broad area up top, allowing for lots of gentle hiking/exploring above timberline. And despite it's easy accessibility and gentle climb, I didn't see another soul up there all day!

Combining these two peaks in winter makes for one long day. Still, it was a joy to watch the sun set over the Sawatch and the Sangres during our descent.

Climbed with cpittman actually... and probably slowed him down! My first 12er, so it was a little bit of a challenge, but it was a gorgeous day, and the views at the summit were great.

Beautiful day. Parked at the 2WD trailhead at Rosemont Resevoir. Hiked up the Cheyenne Canyon route and down the faint two-track road. Seven hours round trip.
Frosty Park is littered with garbage, spent shells and oil stains. Its unfortunate that a handful of uncaring individuals can ruin such a beautiful area.

Forest Road 376
Lovely October outing. The wind was just HOWLING though. It was incredible. Near Stratton Reservoir, we occasionally got blown off balance. Poor dogs, without the benefit of sunglasses to block the breeze, had tears on their faces. Still, we summitted, found the summit register / GPS cache, enjoyed the up-close views of Pikes Peak and watched the Cog Rail train, then cruised on back down hill. While on the "faint-two-track" road nearing the intersection with 379 we encountered a calf carcass that looked as if it had been cached by a mountain lion. We got OUT OF DODGE, but the dogs were sniffing and swiveling their heads for a while after the carcass encounter, keeping an eye and a nose out for a big cat. Hiking companion: Tom. Dogs: Lady, Bing & Lela.
Started at 0545, enjoying the cooler temps only the mountains can offer. Summited before 9 and stayed a loooooooong time on the summit taking it all in.

Hiked the trio on a gorgeous day!
Drove up FR376 and parked at the gate. Made our way over to the communications towers, and that's when we saw the heavy clouds coming off Pikes Peak and heading toward Almagre. We decided to make a quick run to Almagre via Stratton Reservoir. By the time we were around the reservoir, the rain and groppel hit. No thunder though, which was good. Summitted Almagre quickly then decided to make a run for Baldy. When we got back to the reservoir on the way to Baldy, the heavy clouds were gone. (Phew!) Summitted Baldy, and then headed east down the dead forest that looked like the result of a lightning fire. Very surreal! Anyway, got down to the big meadow fairly quickly. By this time the summits were being hit hard by heavy clouds and thunder. Saw a couple of lightning strikes as well.
All in all, a great 9-mile hike with a lot to offer.

Radio tower summitAfter numerous previous attempts from North Cheyenne Cañon, I ran out of steam and resources before reaching the summit.
Today I went with three friends from the Gold Camp/ FS 379 junction. Success!
The clouds were moving in and out of the mountains. Great day.
