Lovely for skinning practice  Sucess!

We arrived at the parking lot at 8AM and it was already spilling out onto the road. It fills early on the weekends.

The bottom of the trail had bare patches so my party hiked up the first half mile or so. Then we put on our skis and skins and hoofed up. The trail was well groomed, plenty of skate, x-country, and snowshoers out for a lovely day. An accomplice forgot her poles so I gave her mine and skinned up sans poles. To my surprise, I didn't miss them at all.

The summit is a short distance from the highest groomed point and makes a nice spot for photos. Just be careful of cornices on the leeward side. We skied up the western loop and down the eastern loop for a total of 10.7 miles.

Surrounded by Skiiers  Sucess!

Took this because Mountaineers recommend it as an avy-free trek.

I saw one other hiker/snowshoer the entire day; all others were x-country skiers.

Quite a popular place for them and it was a nice day to boot.

Pretty easy & gentle ascent.

Did not need my snowshoes until halfway down the descent as it grew slushy.

Mount Amabilis  Sucess!

After an awesome week of peakbagging in Washington this one was the perfect way to cap it off on the drive back to Salt Lake. Maybe an hour detour on a good dirt road to near the top of this one.

Thomas, Para Point, Baldy, Domerie, Easton Ridge, Amabilis  Sucess!

Drove most of the way up Amabilis. These peaks are pretty lame. Not a big fan of this area. Good views of the lakes though. P2k 72/144

Nice Drive Up  Sucess!

Drove up the FSR 4822 then stayed straight toward the former Beacon. Walking through the woods toward the viewpoint was easy but I think that one could easily drive to very near the true summit and viewpoints.

Second time on 04 Feb, 2012 snowshoe along FSR4822 the whole way. Long slog but great views and super clear conditions.

Ski Loop  Sucess!

Amabalis is an excellent ski tour. Slog on up, ski the ridge, then 2200' of downhill over four miles.

A Virtual Drive-Up  Sucess!

Those huge bumps (speed bumps) built into the road were nasty, but somehow my low-clearance vehicle managed. The views from the summit were very good, and it was nice to see Thorp Mountain to the northeast... which we had just returned from earlier during the day.

Beautiful views of Kachess Lake  Sucess!

Was surprised not to see the road not gated. We still though parked on the side and just walked up the road to the summit.
