An alternative route?

An alternative route?

We are at 5400m or so, ready to start climbing the ramp on Uruashraju, the rightmost part of which is in the left of this photo. To the left of it was a massive icefall, way too dangerous to climb. To the right ... well, if we hadn't found the ramp, who knows, we might have considered this, but it doesn't look easy, and it's impossible to see if there are any insurmountable obstacles once we would have reached the ridge. Perhaps it's possible to go far to the right, around the large mushroom. Looking at the contours, the terrain is marginally less steep there - but then again, the contours only show the average steepness, not the details. 19 July 2011.
