Route Climbed: SW ridge  Sucess!

I hiked in from the Tenderfoot Trailhead with a couple of friends and set up a camp on the north side of Dollar Lake. We took the SW ridge and enjoyed some scrambling and bouldering on some of the rock formations on the way up. We watched the sun set from the summit and headed back at dusk. It's a pretty straight forward hike up for a nice view from the summit.

Aneroid Lake  Sucess!

My brother and roomate and I climbed this over spring break. We tele skied into Aneroid Lake camped in the lean-to there and then made the climb the next day. Man, was there a lot of snow. We had pretty nice weather and were lucky enough to avoid avalanches.

Route Climbed: West ridge from Dollar Lake  Sucess!

On a week-long backpack plagued with bad weather, the clouds lifted just long enough to scramble up Aneroid Mountain. We were greeted by 2 inches of fresh snow on the summit from the storm the night before.

Traverse from Mt. Howard to Dollar Lake  Sucess!

Since I didn't get Aneroid with Dennis last september, I had to go back and get this one off my back. My wife and I stayed at the Wallowa State Park (a zoo) and went up the tram. From there I sidehilled East and Hidden Peaks and topped out on Aneroid. I dropped down towards Dollar Lake and exited via the trail doing my best to not step in all the horse p**p along the way. Unbelievable and a boring trail. Next time I'd do Mt. Howard both ways. If I'd had an extra day, I would've camped at Dollar Lake and done Pete's Point. Beautiful area.

Route Climbed: Slope off of Hidden Peak Date Climbed: August 2005  Sucess!

Backcountry trip from Mount Howard spanning over to Polaris Pass where we dropped down into the Wallowa drainage to hike out. Had great weather during the mid-August days but temperatures during the night were often colder than anticipated. Moving towards Polaris Peak on the trail we met several parties, but mostly had the mountains to ourselves.

Route Climbed: North ridge from Hidden/East saddle Date Climbed: August 22, 1995  Sucess!

Came up from the saddle between East and Hidden peaks. This is a fairly level route and not too difficult. On August 4, 1998, I did it again with a friend from New Zealand. I crawled up the mountain, while he ran up it. Damn kiwi.

Route Climbed: South Side Date Climbed: August 18, 1998  Sucess!

Climbed Aneroid from Lake Joseph in a circuitous route. Met a Peruvian shepherding lots of sheep in the basin southwest of the peak. He said his greencard had expired and that he was "hiding out" in the hills tending the flock. Descended Aneroid to the northwest, bearing directly toward Lake Joseph.

Route Climbed: West Ridge Date Climbed: July 1976  Sucess!

A week after the snowstorm climb we returned to complete the Aneroid Traverse. We hiked into base camp by moonlight on Friday night, then headed off for a second climb of Aneroid in as many weekends, so we could say we completed the entire traverse. Then we turned back around to the west and followed the ridge to Pete's Point, then turned north and headed for Bonneville Mountain. After traversing it we dropped back down to our camp near the East Fork Wallowa River.

Route Climbed: East Ridge Date Climbed: June 1976  Sucess!

On a snowy weekend in June 1976 we set out to do the Aneroid Traverse. The plan was to climb Mt. Howard (where the tram is), then climb the ridge to the south, then traverse East Peak, Aneroid Mountain, Pete's Point, and Bonneville Mountain before dropping back down to the East Fork Wallowa River. We climbed Howard (the tram wasn't even running) and camped near the terminal in the snow. Then the weather closed in and it snowed hard, so we waited it out for a day. The weather was no better on day 3, but we decided to give it a try anyway. In a driving blizzard we traversed East Peak, then sought a campsite in the pass between East and Aneroid. After setting up camp three of us headed for Aneroid in the fog and wind and snow. When we reached the broad ridge line, we carefully marked the spot so it could be found on the way down. Then we merely followed the ridge until the summit cairn was found. The traverse was aborted, and the following day we hiked out. But the following weekend we returned to complete the traverse.
