Dal punto di vista storico e geologico risulta come uno dei siti archeologici più interessanti della Val d'Aosta, con oltre 60 tombe a cista, testimonianze del periodo dell'ultime glaciazioni, e con varie incisioni rupestri risalenti dal Secondo al Terzo Millennio avanti Cristo per la qual cosa il geosito detto di Vollein e nel Comune di Quart (

Via Consolare delle Gallie) racchiude su superficie limitata diversi aspetti geologici, geomorfologici e culturali di notevole rilievo ed assoluto valore, nonché pregio come l’arte rupestre con incisioni a coppelle sulle rocce montonate o sui grandi massi con terrificanti ammassi tanto bizzarri quanto selvaggi, oppure in anfratti dall'aspetto tetro e rivolti in gran parte a Meridione verso la Valle Centrale e dalla sommità dei quali vedesi scorrere in grande profondità la Dora Baltea. La Necropoli s'estende nel settore più depresso del dosso e gli scavi archeologici han portato alla luce
66 tombe a cista, ossia a forma di cassetta di pietra sporgente dal terreno, composte da quattro facciate e d'un lastrone di copertura debordante i lati delle tombe medesime. Completano le curiosità ed arricchiscono la fantasia alcuni massi isolati, apparentemente scolpiti, e sparsi sulla piatta Sommità
(900 metri circa) che sembrano riprodurre il globo terrestre od almeno quello d'un lontano corpo celeste. Quasi un messaggio d'adorazione nei confronti dell'
Universo e della potenza del
Sole, capace di risvegliare lor morti dalle più oscure tenebre esponendo le spoglie dall'ombra della fossa ai rivitalizzanti raggi cosmici. Un credo che s'é sempre espanso nel
Tempo insin dalla nascità dell'uomo. Vanificando le Ere.

del movimento di persone, dei colori della
Natura che ricoprono anche i luoghi più aridi e selvaggi, quasi abbandonati da Dio, del profumo e degli odori che emana la Vita.
