Hiking in the Picos de Europa with an SLR.
PRIMARY IMAGE: Mirador del Oso at Collado de Llesba, (1,609m).
These photos here are from Summer 2005. Slide film, taken either by me or by ALF ROBERTSON and scanned & tidied up digitally by me.
LEFT: The Cabaña Veronica (2,325m) must be one of the smallest and most unusual refuges anywhere.
RIGHT: The Refugio Diego Mella (Collado Jermoso) at 2,046m is of more usual construction but its situation is spectacular. (Scanned slide from 2005. Not great quality foto but a Quality place!) Jermosa or hermosa means beautiful or pretty.
LEFT: Another view of the Refugio Collado Jermoso or Diego Mella. Summits that can be made from here include: Torre del Friero (2,445m). Torre del Llambrion 2,642m, Toree de la Celada (2,470m), Torre de Palanca (2,614m) and Torre Peñalba (2,369m).
RIGHT: Route to Peña Vieja.
LEFT: The 3 brave companions that joined us for Peña Vieja. The path winds up on the left.
RIGHT: On the descent of Peña Vieja after a long, satisfying day.
BELOW, FROM LEFT TO RIGHT: 1) On the summit of Peña Vieja.
2) I've had TWO café con leche this morning.
3) The Collado Jermoso (Hermoso or Jermoso means pretty, beautiful) on our way to the Diego Mella hut.
