HistoryPatagonia Expedition Race is full of tales of great adventure and experiences that have left a unique mark on all of the racers who have participated, the press and on those who have been part of the organization. In races that have been true expeditions in every sense of the word, we have explored and discovered one of the most isolated and pristine landscapes in the world: Southern Patagonia of Chile, in the extreme south of the American continent.
With only four editions, we have added up over three thousand kilometers on race routes, more than 500 in 2004, over 600 in 2005, more than 700 in 2006 and over 1,100 in February 2007. But beyond the kilometers, interaction with nature is PATAGONIA EXPEDITION RACE’s intention; everyday presents itself with new obstacles and every day surprises and amazes us with its fauna, magical landscapes, and its ever changing and unpredictable weather. Athletes from over 18 countries have already lived the PATAGONIA EXPEDITION RACE experience: Canada, USA, Mexico, New Zealand, South Africa, Denmark, Sweden, Russia, Spain, France, Germany, Great Britain, Check Republic, Colombia, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and Chile have all been present in previous editions.Next EditionIn February 2008 the 5th edition of PATAGÓNIA EXPEDITION RACE will have approximately 600 kilometers of adventure through the most unexplored corners of the mythical and legendary Land of Fire (Tierra del Fuego). The route of the race will present a grand variety of landscapes and climates; we will move forward through vast steppes, sub-Antarctic forests and mushy peat bogs, traversing mountain regions, looking for a new crossing of the majestic Darwin Range, crossing the Beagle Channel again and keep on southbound, reaching a southern latitude never achieved by an expedition race in history. This new edition will keep the same style and spirit that has characterized PATAGONIA EXPEDITION RACE since it’s beginning; nevertheless a significant change will be made to it’s format: the sum of all kayak sections will be less than 10% of the whole race route, i.e. more than 90% will be trekking and mountain biking. Though, this by no means will lessen the importance of the kayaking discipline, which might mark the difference between teams at some point in time.LinkWWW.PATAGONIAEXPEDITIONRACE.COM Images
