The tundra on Austen Mountain was full of blooms the day Bob and I climbed. Absolutely stunning! The views of the surrounding buttes were also spectacular.
As good as I remembered Date Climbed: Jul 10, 2007
After an unsuccessful try at a fog-shrouded and crumbling Sublette Peak, Mike Hoyt and I headed up here in the afternoon. It was just about a perfect afternoon, and the same carpets of alpine wildflowers I'd remembered from six years back still decked the place.
I was backpacking at Upper Brooks Lake and set out for Bonneville Pass as a day trip. I followed a route up Austin and then through steep cliffs and forest back to camp. It was an unforgettable introduction to the meadow country of the high Absarokas.
