Avalanche Lake - Gunsight Mountain

First view as you enter the Avalanche Lake Basin. The lake, while not one of the park's largest, is not seen in its entirety here, and is bigger than it looks from this perspective. The lake is at 3905' elevation, while Gunsight Mountain, with its two summits—at the head of the lake, left of center—is 9258'. The hike into Avalanche Lake is a relatively easy two miles, and well worth the effort! Photo by Vernon, June 2, 2006.
