Azure Damselflies (Coenagrion puella) are common near slow flowing or still water sources. They have a fairly long and slender bodies. They are smaller than dragonflies and hold their wings along the body when resting. They fly low over the water and catch small insects in flight.
Males are blue and females are green. The female lays eggs in water. After the eggs hatch the nymphs stay in the water and feed on mosquito larvae and tadpoles. Nymphs molt many times and eventually the adult forms of a damselfy emerge. After their wings have completely dried and their bodies have hardened, the adults are ready to fly.
