"backside" of Ama Dablam,...
"backside" of Ama Dablam, seen from the beginning of the high valley that leads from Hinku valley to Mingbo La pass ("ice col route"). Picture was taken from SE side (close up). The left ridge is the SW-ridge of the normal route. It happened that I took the picture on October 11th 2003. On that day german mountain guide Robert Rackl died on the mountain because of a loose fix rope.

Amazing shot of Ama Dablam! As I accidentially saw the thumbnail, I thought "oh, this is somewhere in south america...". But obviously I was terribly wrong.
Thanks for sharing this "unusual" (and very unknown) shot of Ama Dablam.
Cheers Lukas

Thank you! It was on the day after crossing Amphu Labtsa pass. We hiked down Hinku valley and made a stop for a rest at the turnoff of Mingbo La route. But I did not take a rest and hurried up the moraine 100m just for taking a picture of this view. It was definately worth it.
